in the community

At the Little Children Schoolhouse, our goal is to act as a caring extension of your child's home and family life. We strive to create an environment that nurtures the whole child. The development of a sense of connection with others is an important part of this mission. As such, we believe the concepts of community service and compassion are a fitting addition to our program.

About Us
Gladys and Lissy Ruiz

Life brings surprises in many ways. When we were living in Peru, my sister and I were very different from each other. It was no surprise we chose different professional fields. I earned a degree as an English teacher, while Elizabeth (Lissy) graduated in computer science. We loved to do a lot of fun things, but independently.

Years passed and we decided to move here to this beautiful city – Boston. In Boston, we attended the same college again, but this time, driven by the love of working with children, we chose the same path, graduating from the early childhood education program.

Since then, we have shared experiences, goals, and wishes. After more than 10 years working in the field of Early Childhood Education, Gladys had the opportunity to open the Little Children Schoolhouse. After a year, Lissy joined the staff to complement the school's dedicated teaching team. Each day brings us the opportunity to learn by working side by side, helping each other to provide the best care for children in Brookline.

The school was built on the idea of providing a nurturing, loving environment for children - an extention of each child's home and family life. Our professional experiences prepared us for working with children, but sharing the bonds of family has allowed us to create a warm, home-like experience for our students and their families. It is our joy to create a school that is a community within a community, where students, parents and staff form an extended family.

words from our parents

A loving parent has always been a picky client at any day care facility. "Will my child have the best environment while I am at work? Will he be introduced to inappropriate behaviors?" These are the typical questions that I asked myself when I looked into that one perfect place for my son to come to everyday. Little Children Schoolhouse is that one place that I am happy to bring Yasha every day. What I value the most is the school's approach towards nurturing their students into smart and independent little community members. I have to admit that, even though I am really against bumper stickers, I would stick one on my bumper to advertise Little Children Schoolhouse. In the end, their hard work benefits not only my family by my community as a whole. Thank you!"
